Project Suncatcher prototype satellite
Google launched a prototype satellite with four TPUs into low Earth orbit with Planet, the first in-orbit test of its space-based AI computing research project.
Project Suncatcher moved from a research proposal to a first hardware flight. The satellite launched on SpaceX's Transporter-18 rideshare mission, and the team made contact with it after launch. Google will study how the TPUs handle launch stress, radiation and thermal conditions over the coming weeks and use the results in future designs.

Google calls it a research moonshot and not a near-term commercial product, and has published a peer-reviewed paper in Joule on the research behind it.
