Android MCP (AppFunctions)

Google said on October 31 that AppFunctions, its Android MCP interface for exposing app functions to AI agents such as Gemini, is now in beta.

Android apps can expose functions as tools that Gemini and other agents discover and call, so agents don't need to learn each app's interface. It needs Android 16 or later, compileSdk 36, the Jetpack AppFunctions library, and the EXECUTE_APP_FUNCTIONS permission for callers. The Gemini integration is still in private preview through an early access program.

Google's documentation still calls it an experimental preview and the library is alpha, so the beta label is used inconsistently. Compatibility with non-Gemini agents is unconfirmed.
